The 6-Schartenturm was a six loop-holed turret (Scharten) with a 20, 25, 30 or 45 cm thick armored wall. In the turret two sMG 34 were placed on specially designed carriages (M.G.34-Lafettes). In the turret's wall three optics were placed in armoured guiding tubes (Pz.Beob.Winkelfernrohren). Each of these optics had a 120 degrees view, so that a 360 degrees observation was possible. There was also a periscope placed in the center of the turret. In the turret shaft were two floors; the first was attached just above the shaft-entrance and the second one (the combat floor) was placed in the turret itself. Both floors could be reached by two pair of stairs which ran all the way up to the combat floor. In the combat floor were wo openings which could be closed with a hatch. To make sure that all the combat-gasses were sucked away and that the turret was provided with enough fresh air a system of several tubes were installed in the turret-shaft. These ventilation tubes were connected with a gasfilter-and ventilation system (several H.E.S.2,4's) located at the bottom of the shaft (or in a special filter-room). To make sure that all the cartridges were taken care off a special system was designed to get the to the lowest floor.
