The "3-Schartenturm" was a turret with three loop-holes ("Scharten") equiped with one or more machine-guns. The machine-guns were placed on movable carriages on a rail which could be put for the desired loop-hole. Each "Scharte" could cover a 60° field of fire, so this means that the 3-Schartenturm had a total field of fire of 180°. The type of machine-gun, a sMG 34 or a sMG 37(t), that was fitted depended on the turret-design and the carriage. The designs differ in thickness, type of loophole and observation slots/tubes. There are cases known where a 6-Schartentürme was used as 3-Schartenturm. Bunker-designes for Dreischartenturm are:

Regelbau 110a, Stand für 3-Schartenkuppel;
Regelbau 632, Stand für 3-Schartenturm;
Regelbau 643, Stand für 3-Schartenturm in A.
