Armoured plates used as roofs
(Deckenplatte)

A special form of armoured plates is the usages as roof (Deckenplatte) in the designes for the Regelbau 601, Regelbau 615, Regelbau 624, Regelbau 626, Regelbau 627 and Regelbau 700. In these designs the normal 2m thick roof above the combat-room/gun garage was replaced for a 22 cm thick armoured plate. Because of this roof the profile of the casemate was reduced considerably so that it didn't stick out much to the horizon, and this way it could fit better in the surroundings. The "Deckenplette"of the Regelbau 626 and the Regelbau 700 were spherical shaped, the "Deckenplatte" of the Regelbau 601, Regelbau 624 en Regelbau 627 were flat and the "Deckenplatte" of the Regelbau 615 was placed sloping. Because armour was scarce and thus expensive this type of armour-usage in the Atlantikwall was kept to a minimum and was only approved for very important strategic positions.
