Color coding tubes and cables

The cables and tubes in German bunker were painted in a particular (standardized) color. This page gives a short explanation of the color codes and their meaning.

This particular picture is taken in Panzerwerk 625 in Poland, part of the Festungsfront Oder Warthe Bogen. It gives an overview of the color codes used in German bunkers. The same color codes are used in the bunkers in the Atlantikwall.

Explanation of the codes:

Color (German/English) Function (German) Function (English)
Gelb (Yellow) Ansaugleitung The tube for taking in fresh (possible contaminated) air.
Blau (Blue) Frischluft/verteilerleitung Fresh, filtered air.
Rot (Red) Abluftleitung Return tube for used air.
Braun (brown) Brennstoffleitung Fuel
Grün (Green) Wasserleitung Fresh water
Grün/Schwarz (Green/Black) Abwasserleitung Used water (waste-pipe)
Schwarz (Black) Nachrichtenleitung Radio equipment cables
Schwarz/Rot (Black/Red) Starkstromkabel Power cables
